An Introduction to Microsoft Project Cortex

Microsoft Project Cortex brings enterprise-class knowledge management, powered by AI, to M365 that categorizes and unlocks all an organization’s information. The Microsoft Project Cortex AI analyzes information in Microsoft SharePoint, Exchange, and Teams and then organizes this content into easy-to-use, wiki-type topic pages in a Knowledge Center.

What Is Knowledge Management?

Gartner has defined knowledge management as:

“A discipline that promotes an integrated approach to identifying, capturing, evaluating, retrieving, and sharing all an enterprise’s information assets. These assets may include databases, documents, policies, procedures, and previously uncaptured expertise and experience in individual workers.”

An organization’s greatest asset is its people. Second on that list is information about its business. Microsoft Project Cortex aims to connect employees with the right information at the right time, cutting down on wasted effort and empowering employees to achieve more. It provides an amazing solution that removes the need for employees to hunt for information. Instead, it leverages AI to harvest, collect, organize, and present critical information to team members.

Microsoft Project Cortex’s Knowledge Center

At the heart of Microsoft Project Cortex is the Knowledge Center where AI automatically collects critical information and builds topic cards/pages for important subjects. The topic pages contain a description of the topic, related experts or team members, and resources like documents.  These topics are delivered “just in time” inside of the Microsoft Office suite of products (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Teams, etc.) as hyperlinks with hover pop-outs. The Knowledge Center also allows your organizational expert to curate this AI-generated knowledge.
